We just wanted to put out some things that we have been finding so far this week out on the ice. Our guide team has been on the ice everyday this week checking ice and looking for active walleyes. We have spent more time drilling and checking ice depths than fishing, but when we have fished it has been really good. The ice we have been finding out of Hunters has been anywhere from 8-11 inches. We have run into some spots earlier this week where we found as little as 4". This particular spot was near one of the many ice shelves. With the big winds we had while the lake was starting to freeze has left a number of ice walls or ice shelves. Use extreme caution when looking to cross one of these.
When we have fished, we have found very aggressive fish from rock structure along the east side to mud flats. These fish seem to enjoy the early season chase of an aggressively jigged spoon.
We have seen both big fish and alot of keeper fish showing up so far. Tony was out with a writer from the StarTribune today, keep an eye out for the report in this weekends Outdoor section.
Tony will continue with the weekly thursday Podcast report on our website, and I will try and keep you posted in between those times in this forum. It is time to come up and fish Mille Lacs. We will see you on the ice!
