This past weekend, the main road busted up due to vehicles driving to fast. Hunters Point has asked thier customers to limit the speed on the lake and people are not following directions.
They are asking to limit your cars and truck speeds to 10 mph. Some people just don't understand what excessive speed will do with the limited ice depth that we are currentlly dealing with.
Over the past few trips on the lake I have been tempted to stop acouple of trucks that were flying along at 30+ mph......thats where you are asking for trouble.....this excessive speed causes a wave in the ice ahead of the vehicle that will causes cracks and breaks in the ice.
The resorts are spending alot of time and effort along with high fuel costs to maintain these lake roads and here we have folks that reck it for everyone......
I really don't know what the answer is here? start kicking some ass?

I witnessed the same yesterday on my way back in from the flats. The drivers of two full-sized trucks had no common sense, or respect, and passed me while I was driving 10 mph. And yes, I did write down their license plate number.
I know it would be additional burden on the already busy Hunter's staff but I say people should sign in, including their vehicle make and license plate number, when they purchase their Road Pass. Get caught speeding and you're not welcome back.
Thanks again to the Hunter's crew for all of their work plowing us a new road!

We weren't happy to see people driving too fast either. I understand driving to the flats is a long trip at 10mph. But, if the ice isn't ready, it's not ready. If you want to get out there fast, bring the sled or atv.
I also had a couple trucks speed up to me from behind and then tailgated me the rest of the way in. It was very annoying and rude. Absolutely no respect.
maybe people just dont know? last year was my first time driving anything besides a snowmobile on mille laces and i had no idea there was a speed limit for autos. No one ever told me when id get my road pass and i dont remember any signs. maybe you guys at hunters and the other resorts should add a message on your road pass that tell everyone that buy one that there is a 10 mph limit for cars and trucks on the ice and a short explanation of WHY cause if they dont know why then their just gonna be like
Hunters also has signs posted on both doors at the entrance to the resort.... they were there when the roads were opened.... there is NO EXCUSE for driving over 10 MPH on Hunters Roads, unless you skipped picking up a PASS in the resort..... I think it is ASS kicking time Bob..... 1 can ruin it for all.....
I also noticed that people were driving at excessive speed. I think posting their license plate at the bar is a good idea. When staff issues a lake pass they ask for their plate number. If they are on the list....No lake pass.
