Anyone know anything about Wilderness Beach resort? We have been looking for a seasonal site and these look pretty good. Anyone over there that could comment?

Wilderness Beach is one of three resorts on Malmo Bay, and it is the southern most of those three resorts.  I would consider either Fishers resort or Castaway's to have better facilties and morer services available than Wilderness Beach, which is a smaller resort.

That is my opinion - but we live between Castaways and Fishers and they both offer a lot of services on the same bay area.

The others to consider are:

1. Fishers resort - owned by the Fishers family for many years; go here:

http://www.fishersresort.com/index.html

2. Castaways Resort, specializing in seasonal sites and hook ups with a restaurant; go here:

Good Luck! smilewinksmile

Castaways has some spots near their beach/water front -- but only a few. That is very hard to come by... I have not been in Wilderness beach for awhile and if George has it, he will get it in great shape, I am sure! I will stop by there in early May.

We live just south of Castaways and they do park RVs down near the water but that may be weekend only type rentals...I am remote right now so I cannot check it out in person.

You would have to call them. Good Luck.smile

Wilderness is not owned by George and Linda. I think your thinking of Eastside Marina.

I have been at Wilderness for a few years now.  Here is my take on the place.

First – the owners.  They live and work down here in the cities.  They show up maybe 5 times a year to look around.  They stay in the old bar/restaurant that is converted to a house now.  They leave you alone unless there is some kind of county health/zoning violation on your lot.  Aitken county inspectors run through there a couple times a year.  I really don’t see them in the business long term.  I would expect them to sell when they get a good offer.  Down the road, I see the place closed up and turned into a place to build condo’s.  Like what happened to the old Lakeside by Bobber’s house.  But that is just a guess.

They bartered out a spot to a guy who does the mowing and basic maintenance.   Don’t expect a clean fish cleaning house.  I usually clean fish at my camper and drop off the guts.  So, we just refer to it as the stinky gut house.  You do not want to put your camper near it!!!

The grounds are generally kept clean and mowed.  But the trimming up close to your camper is rarely done.  So most of us keep/share a push mower.  Expect to tidy up once a week during the summer.  Not really a complaint there.  When I was down at Fishermens Wharf, the mower guy did it with a beer between his legs and dinged up more than a few campers.   So, I expect he is just being careful.

The lots sizes are very nice for the East Side.  Plenty of room for a shed/deck and parking.  The lake views are great!

The electric is metered and always available.  Water on by late April and off the first week in Oct.  We just fill our water tanks that last week in Sept and that gets us through the fall trolling season.

The boat ramp is a little tight. But it in a protected harbor and out of the wind/waves.  Docks are an extra charge if you plan to keep the boat in the water.  The first few weeks of the season, there are boats that use the access and pay the $10 bucks.  After that, it gets quiet again.  The harbor gets weedy mid summer.  If the lake gets real low like it was a couple years back, don’t expect the owners to pony up any money to dredge.

Did I mention quiet?  No bar!, No bait shop, no real traffic.  We all know each other and keep an eye on stuff.  Never had anything stolen.  But that might be due to my big ol Rotty!!

2.0 miles to Malmo for gas, food, bait.  Very convenient.   I like it here.  Plenty of areas to fish.  Not too far of a run out to the flats like Blue Jug.

Any questions, just let me know.
