Looking at buying a portable generator for my ice house this year and was looking for some advice on what model to get.
I know the Honda EU2000i is probably the best when it comes to how quiet they run and how long of run time you can get out of a tank of gas however they are also at the top of the price range.
I also plan on running a HDTV and lap top with the T.V. which I also hear the Honda is good for.
Any other options that will cover these needs but at a lower price range?

Get the honda.... Wisesales.com No tax free shipping. I think I paid 879 with a 12v cord and a cover. That will save you a couple hundred right there. Get the best, then you will never have to wish you did....
I would say go with the Honda too. I have had one for over 6 years and it is great. One pull, light, quiet. Buy one @ the price listed above and have it forever, vs. replacing pull ropes or whole units every few years.

I have a John Deere generator here at my ranch property and it is Honda powered. I have NEVER regretted the extra that I paid -- becasue of its quiet perfromance and long term reliability. The same applies to the Honda EU2000i or similar Honda models.
Go for it.
Have fun along the way,
Malmo Mike will be there in late December for the early hard water bite and track down Dr. O at Wilderness Bay resort.
Again spend the extra and get the best. I had a cheap one go bad over night on the ice. Bought another cheap one and it leaked oil. Took it right back and the next one (different brand) leaked gas. Took it right back and was sick of the cheap ones. Bought a Honda! I didn't get a great price as listed above but it well worth the extra money.
The Honda's are supposed to be safer for the electronics. A more constant power than others. Some one correct me if I'm wrong, but they are inverters and not straight generators.
The other positive is the Honda's are able to take an aux tank as they have a fuel pump. With the aux tank mine will run all weekend, or most of it, with out refueling.
Thanks for all of the feedback! I think it's pretty obvious I need to go with the Honda! I was leaning in that direction but I thought maybe there was another option that may be a little less expensive?
Does anyone know if there will be anyone at the Ice Show next weekend that may have any deals on the Honda Generator's at the show? I looked at the Ice Show web site and looked at all of the Exibitors but did not see anyone who may have gererators.
Fleet Farm has the Honda EU2000i for $895.99 and if I apply for a Mills Fleet Farm card I can get 10% off. With 10% discount and tax I should be able to get it at Fleet for $862.38. Wondering if I can score one cheaper at the show??
What does everyone do with their generators when its snowing ? Can you just leave them out on the ice? I wouldn't think it would be good for them to get wet..
I built a dog house for mine. Its a cube that is open on one side. The generator sits inside and the opening pointed toward the S.E., just as the shacks are, away from the prevailing winds. The top also opens up to allow heat to disapate when it is not snowing. It is insultated and when it snows I close the top and cheat it back under the top a bit.

I don't as I use an old analog TV/DVD combo in the winter and I won't take my lap top into the humidity of the shack sitting on the ice. But I would if I had anything that was not a throw away. I also remove the TV when packing up and going home.
I have run both and the Boliy is just as quiet, but I believe is better on fuel and maintains the power perfectly... no dimming of the lights and motor surges trying to put out more. Not that the Honda isn't a good unit, but there are better ome's out there.... people just don't know about em...
My Honda EU 2000 runs lights, TV, satelite receiver, small vexilar type chargers, coffee pot, battery charger and few other itmes and rarely ever gets off low idol. Amazing little unit that's for sure. All day long on 1 tank which is about a gallon I beleive.
When running all that and firing up a pizza oven, then it goes into high output but has never ran short of power.
Don't know how many watts is normally being required or used though.
I have the same honda 2000, run lights, ceiling fan, tv, satilite, radio, mini fridge, phone chargers, battery chargers and no power drain...... she really kicks into high when i run the microwave but works great! 5 gallons last fri night through sunday afternoon- Great little adapter kit for $15bucks goes right to the 5 gallon gas tank never need to run outside in middle of night when its 20 below!
I bought a Yamaha generator last year and was very happy. Its the 2000i ??? model. If I remember correctly, it will run over 24 hours on a full tank of gas. I left it out last year in the snow and blowing snow and never had an issue.

Where can I find the adapter kit that goes from the generator to the 5 gallon gas tank that you are talking about?
I got my complete set up at Northern Hydraulics. The 2000 and aux tank and cap you see above in my dog house picture. It nice to have a local vender I can deal with if I have questions and or problems.
What did you pay for the 2000 at Northern Hydroligcs? I am assuming you do mean the Honda EU2000i? Mill's Fleet Farm has them for $895.99. That's the best price I have found.
They have several convenient locations. Plus a real person is good to speak with at their shop. They cannot give Honda generator prices out online due to Honda policy.
I just checked Northern tool & Equipment and they are at $999.99. Mills is $105.00 cheaper. If you apply for a Mills Fleet Card they will give you another 10% off. This is the best deal I have been able to find.
Was hoping for a stretch of nice cold days and nights prior to X-Mas! 10 day forecast is looking like highs in the mid to upper 20's and 30's with lows in the teens.
My daughter is biting at the bit to spend a few days after X-Mas fishing in the new house we bought this year. Doesn't look like it will happen!

Looks like a winner.

Don't remember, but I priced them at several locations and they were all very close if not the same price then. I quessing Fleet Farm didnt have them when I bought mine as I would have used the 10% discount and bought it there. I do remember they had a knock off or look alike then, but I dont remember them having the Honda.
Just bought one at Fleet Farm last weekend. Haven't broken it in yet but plan to this weekend. Fleet Farm about every 2 months has a deal where if you buy the EU2000i you get a $50 FF gift card as well. So I signed up for the 10% off your first purchase when opening a FF card, and got the $50 gift card. Really worked out slick since I was able to throw some new lures in and the $50 card paid for it!
