I've seen a different reel used for ice fishing on some videos. It almost looks like a fly reel on an ice rod, gold in color. Has anyone seen or used them & can give a report?

Have not used them - was thinking about it earlier in the winter fishing season. Frabill makes one - they are fly rod reels...that's all I know.

Yes Frabill sells them as a rod and reel combo. I think the advantage is the the line goes on and off the reel with out twisting the line. So less line twist.

That is the only reason I was thinking about checking them out. Just back from a couple of days fishing out of Terry's. The bite is still outstanding.
