Reports are coming in from the mud flats this week. The walleye are either bitting on a lindy rig with a leech or a crawler. Pulling spinners with a nite crawler also has been a good second option. The fish have been found on the edges of the flat in 26-28 fow. Take the opportunity to look on top of the flat if the fish are not found along the edges! .5 mph has been the best speed for rigging and .8-1.2 mph has been good for the spinners. Hammered gold and hammered chrome blades have been the best on the spinner rig's. Some fish have been reported to being caught also off the flats in deeper water. If your pulling fish in from the deeper waters, please take your time reeling in your catch. Don't stress the health of the fish by pulling it up off the bottom fast. Another important point I would like to make is the time some of the fish are out of the water. Take a quick picture and get the fish back in the lake. Handling the fish and holding it for "minutes" out of the water is killing our fish. So please release the fish in a proper manner allowing it to live another day. The water temperatures are now in the upper 60's on most days. The smallmouth fishing has been really good also. Pitching tube jigs in the shallows has been the ticket! 5-14 fow has been the target area.
Good point on the quick release Bobber. Also don't try and save a hook that is hooked a little deep. Cut the line as short as you can as to not harm the fish and save the fishy life. The fish are inhaling the baits. I have been going with quick hook sets and I haven't missed much and my hooks are right at the front of the mouth.
