Hows the "over the air" TV reception now that all of the local channels have gone digital. I usually watch sports and news/weather while I,m in my Ice house. I'm considering buying a converter box if the reception is ok.
I also would like to know if anyone has an LCD TV permantly in thier house? None of the MFGs give a tempature range rating in thier specs.
Rick, I have had a LCD TV in my occasionally heated garage for the last three years with no problems. A buddy of mine that said that over time it is probably not good for them but I decided to take the chance in "The Man Cave" Fishhouse size TV's have gotten pretty reasonable. I would go with it.
The only signal I can pick up is PBS out of Brainerd, ch.22. There is 6 different signals from that station. I was hoping to get Fox ch.39 out of Aitkin too but I cant get it to come in. Maybe I need a different antenna.
On the Eastside at the cabin we have been dealing with no reception since it went digital. We occasionally get the 22 channels also. This fall we have been fortunate enough to get channel 9 fox and sometimes even Kare 11. This only happens if it is overcast and you can about set your watch to it that it will loose signal at 11am. We have tried antenna adjustments. Boosters, different boxes, nothing has helped. Time to go dish or cable I guess.
I'm still picking up channel 16 on the old anolog signal. (Old TV no converter box) This is the KSTP channel 5 signal with local (Up north) news.
My camper neighbor has a digital reciever in his new flat screen and can pick up 4,5,9, and 11 using the antenna on the RV camper. This is from a spot about 50 yards off the lake.
I got nothing on my digital tv. I just have rabbit ears.
FYI I checked with a DISH TV dealer and they will sell you the equipment for $150.00 ( non HD ) and you can pay $10. a month ( month to month billing, meaning no contract ) for just the local channels.
It looks like reception is from none to good depending on location. I have had fair to good analog reception on the Ice depending on weather. My antenna has taken some hits but should work for one more year. I hate to spend $150.00 for a dish when I only watch a couple of hours of TV per trip. I think I'll invest in a small LCD tv, but not sure if I'll keep it in the House.
I will post my results a couple of weeks into the season for others.

Rick
If our houses are going to be close, I was thinking you should get a large HD TV with sound a round and Lazy Boys!
I stopped at Best Buy yesterday and picked up a 19" LCD TV. My fishing House antenna is kinda beat up, but should work. I downloaded a reception chart that gives compass reading and distance from www.tvfool.com using Hunters resort as reference.
I will post reception results a week or two after we're on the Ice.
I got my house pulled out on Monday and found that there still is analog reception. Ch. 16, 39, 48 for analog and Ch. 22 for digital. My antenna was directed toward Brainerd.
I copied this off a thread on Lakestatesfishing.com.........not me here!!! call this other guy!!!
T.V. reception in the area is horrible since the conversion. I do work for direct t.v. and if you decide to go that way call 1-866-642-2693 employee # 603924 and I will come right to the fish house and hook it up for you.

We have 33 channels this morning. Good thing, to cold to do anything outside. So now does the cold crisp air help signal? We usually only get 8 channels and they would come and go.
I was hoping to get a dish installed and expert fishing advice all at one time. I really thought I would be on the Ice by now.....too many things have happened during the past 3 weeks. I am coming up Tuesday or Wednesday and will be sure to bring a TV. I will post results next weekend.
Well, I hooked up my new Digital TV last Wednesday afternoon and pointed the antenna towards Brainard. I got channels 16 and 39 and a bunch of PBS channels. Channels 16 and 39 are both analog. I had to tweak the antenna to get either one in clearly and would loose the digital channels. The digital PBS channels came in with a 50% signal strength on my TV. I intended to sweep the antenna northeast for Duluth and south for the cities on Thursday, however, due to the cold and the wind I decided to hold off. Each time I move the antenna, I need to do a new search, kind of a pain.! I didn't have the antenna tightened down and the wind was whipping it around like a weathervane. By Thursday afternoon the wind had done a job on the antenna so I gave up. Looks like next year will be Satellite and a dish.
Sorry to say, but ,after reading the Stollen Honda Generator posting I would need to point out that I don't leave the TV or anything on value in my house.
I've got a cabin too on the East Side. After the conversion, with a Digital Box I can get the Twin Cities stations (4-5-9-11-23-29-45), rotating the antenna I can get Duluth. My antenna is about 25' in the air, and I do have a power booster. On the lake I tried with a booster and got nothing. Must have to do with the height of the antenna and horizon view.
heres what i do i have a directv at home so for an additional 5$ a month i added a receiver. i put that receiver in fishhouse with an old dish i had from a move or you can pick one up at a garage sale. and walah i have a few hundred channels in my house for 5$ bucks a month at the end of season just deactivate receiver or use it in your garage.
Fishing was kind of slow this trip so I spent some time checking TV reception.
Channel 16 (analog) from Brainard seems to get the best reception. I swung my antenna towards Duluth and picked up several digital channels, but I lost them about 4PM (Dusk). Saturday, 2:30PM I pointed my antenna south to the cities and picked up 2 digital channels. One of the channels was Fox and I got the football game in with a 50% signal strength indicated on my TV. Again I lost the signal about 4:30 PM. The variable signal strength is due to atmosphere changes at dusk and about 1 hour after dawn and also cloud cloud cover and humidity play a part in reception. When the broadcast signals were analog the signal would get snowy, but viewable. When the new digital signal signals drop below the TV's threshold they just disappear. It looks like channel 16 will be it for me this year.
A right antenna model could also helps you for boosting digital signals. It would also helps for stronger reception from free over-the-air digital television stations.
