We had some skim ice on the lake Saturday! As of this am Sunday the eastside has open water ( waves ). The forecast calls for more wind on Wednesday along with below zero temperatures the end of the week!
I hope the lake stays open until the snow fall comes through...a new ice cover does not need a snow cover!
we'll keep ya posted!

Single digit's for overnight temperatures last night!! We had light winds last night also, will need to watch the weather today-Thursday. And see what our lake out front will look like than......the forecast is for 4-7 inches of snow, high winds, and colder temperatures...............wait and see
Here's our Governor's update from last year. Looks so far that everything is going about the same, temperature-wise, wind-wise and other-wise. So it won't be long, now. (By the 30th of December, we had roads plowed to the flats.) Just remember this:
There is no such thing as 100 percent safe ice.
Follow these guidelines if you're going out on the early ice.
New ice is usually stronger than old ice. Four inches of clear, newly‑formed ice may support one person on foot, while a foot or more of old, partially‑thawed ice may not.
Ice seldom freezes uniformly. It may be a foot thick in one location and only an inch or two just a few feet away.
Ice formed over flowing water and currents is often dangerous. This is especially true near streams, bridges and culverts. Also, the ice on outside river bends is usually weaker due to the undermining effects of the faster current.
The insulating effect of snow slows down the freezing process. The extra weight also reduces how much weight the ice sheet can support. Also, ice near shore can be weaker than ice that is farther out.
Booming and cracking ice isn’t necessarily dangerous. It only means that the ice is expanding and contracting as the temperature changes.
Schools of fish or flocks of waterfowl can also adversely affect the relative safety of ice. The movement of fish can bring warm water up from the bottom of the lake. In the past, this has opened holes in the ice causing snowmobiles and cars to break through.
Just seen a 4 wheeler about 200 yards out, straight out from Portside.... seen one yesterday, maybe 100 yards out, on the south end of Isle Bay... drove the wheeler out 100 yards and the portable was about another 200 out.. are people that dumb and lazy ???!!! Guess so !!!
Glen is right -- they must be a little lazy and NUTS. Jon, You got that right.
We see them go through early ice every year in Malmo Bay areas or the marina near bye...Guess those guys are just nuts...
if you go thru 'stay off' ice, and live through it... the four wheeler wasn't cheap - was it? At least my Arctic Cat 500 was not cheap at all.
Great update on the Governor's Ice report. Thanks T2J. P.S. I have my MilleLacsLakeFishing decals proudly displayed. Have fun with Governor Bobber until I can get home.
