Hello all you ice fisherman and woman. A friend of mine and myself have to absolutely have a fish house but do not wish to make ice fishing more tasking in the least. Were older now and cant do the manual labor as we used to so here was an idea we came up with. The attached video is of a fish house trailer weve made using Auto Cad and alot of sweat fabbing it. Please can anyone give us the pros and cons they can see with this. The trailer finished is $1,650. Its 8 x 16 with a V - Front. 5,000lb spindles each (Extremely Heavy Duty Larger Bearings) for rough lakes and just overall abuse to frame. 2,500lb leaf springs each. Center line is 4 x 3 tubing and the rest is 4 x 2. Trailer weighs approximately 800lbs. Were at the point where we need to shell it up and needed any suggestions on siding AND the best price to pay for it. Please remember its only the second fish house we have ever made and the last one had cranks. Ill be dragging this baby up this winter to Nitties for some of the monster perch if they'll bite or to just waste the day away in luxury and then hit the bar lol. Were running outta time and need to get it completed for the winter. Click on the link for video below.
Yes actually I have the cut list plans and all the dimensions in autocad and .pdf formates. Exploded views of the pivot arms as well. Even made a price list for the cost of trailer as we go on with the build. Were looking hard at materials and pricing atm to get this rig setup for winter. Found a deal already onm aluminum siding .040" 10' x 5' sheets at $49.00.
You may need to update windows media player or else download VLC player with all of the codecs need to view certain videos. Heres a link-----> http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ If a link is violating forum rules. Please forgive and maybe an admin can remove.

Ok the trailer frame had its POR 15 applied to make her rustproof :) Ordered the Marine treat flooring...be here in a week. So i should be walling it up and siding it up in 2 weeks. 1 weekend should do it. Then the spray foaming begins! Heres a pic of the trailer after its completed minus the electric screw jacks. Ill keep posting as i get it more completed in stages.
The actual Trailer weight with screw jacks on is 976 lbs EXACTLY... NOT 800 lbs. approximate. The screw jacks are 20 lbs. each. Forgot the extra steel for the screw jack mounts and the screw jacks as well :)

The plans have been sent in .pdf and the actual Autocad files as well. This way you can modify them to suit your needs. Let me know what you think, positive or negative feedback is always good wisdom. Ill post some pics of parts of the trailer.

Heres some pics of the paneling. Drip rails, Diamond Plate, roof and lights next. All flaws will be covered by the diamond plateing and roof, so exact measuring really wasn't needed in certain areas.
Due to alot of people emailing for these plans I decided to post here. Here is a Zip file of all the .pdf files for the trailer and the fish house build. These have been plotted from Autocad to .pdf . If the Autocad files are what you need feel free to email me and I can send them (there larger files). Let me know what you think. And always remember to have fun cuz the ice is comming soon wooooot!

Well the L.E.D. trailer light wiring is all done including the electric brakes. We are gonna hopefully make the remote cords for the electric jacks with independant functions as well. Most of the wiring inside is all done and a breaker panel is next after the spray foam. Heres some pics. Ill tell you guys one thing... the L.E.D. lights are VERY bright and use way less power inside out. Should make the interior electronics last a while longer than filament bulbs when running on the batteries, and the bulbs wont wear out for a very long time.
Thanks we appreciate it but it does help that my partners employer is letting us build in there shop! :) Without it I know the build would take alot longer.

House is ready for foaming. Roof is next weekend with the corner Diamond Plateing. All wire is run and ready for fuse panel with elecrtical modules and breakers. Ill post that after its completed along with our control boxes for the lifting. Heres a pic of part of the wiring involved. Should be a joyouse couple of hours. :)
Foaming is done heres the foaming in progress :) I'll tell tell you though once the faoming was completed. I left a BIG Buddy heater in it for 30 minutes then the temp in the house was checked at ceiling and read 125 F the floor read 115 F. was 22 degrees outside at the time when sprayed. I preheated the house for the foaming reached like 55 degrees max. Was told to get to 60 degrees or more. Reason is: The foam will crack especially along the studdings on floor ect.. from walking and flexing. We had this happen in the first studded area, all other areas were perfect. I was and so impressed for never seeing this applied or experienceing the effect it has for just body heat inside let alone a small heater. Fibreglass insulation is not even close to this stuff, its unreal based on my last fish house.
Total around just over $7,000 FULLY furnished with kitchen, private bathroom crapper and dinette. *Cheap inner paneling for now till summer. The counter tops are free from a friend as a gift. And the faoming was a gift from another as well. The Dinette folds down into a twin sleeper and then 1 bunk on each side of the house over dinette. If you look at THE LODGE fish houses and Ice Castles im guessing it would be worth around $20,000 when were completed but thats if they were to sell it. It is prewired for airconditioning and satelite. We tried our best at this and did a good job but the pros im sure could have done better. We have been tossing around the availability to call our fish house and start our heater and change temp, tho its not in the immediate plans as of yet. :) Some people say we get a little anal on the tech stuff but its what we enjoy! We have the knowledge and resources to do it so why not? Here's a pic of part of the wiring panel atm.
I have a question for all who can help. I am considering buying a Suburban NT-20S (19,000 BTU) Forced Air Furnace (Ducted Model). The fish house is basically 6 feet 8" ceilings with 8 X 16 feet and a hair over 3 foot nose. Is this over kill with foaming on the coldest days or not. PLEASE HELP give input as i will be buying one asap as to start our paneling and such. The faom leveling will be done tommorrow i figure it'll take a day as we both will hit it hard and I have already done the V- Nose and went pretty fast. A tip for all interested is to use a large wire brush air grinder then a disc. And BE CAREFULL cuz it plows thru it fast. Luckly i had prepped the house prior to foaming and zip locked bagged the wires on every exit point as well as taped all wires deep inside to outter walls. The damn foam still lifted some wires:( We smoke so do you all think Cedar would be our best choice... I love the Cherry Oak look and Naughty Pine. God I cant wait for this to be done so we can go up and grab them perch! I love shooting the #$%# at the bar up there too, the people are fabulous at Nittis.
The Rubber Roof is done and went fast. Here's some pics. The foam grinding continues. Next weekend we should be wrapping it up as well as the electric lift will be functional again..... FINALY!
Still working on the fish house. Outside is all done. Custom water jetted switch panels were made and all the amentities have been bought. Ceiling going in tommorrow and hopefully the rest of the framing for dinette and kitchen area. All the wiring is functional and no problems. Electric jacks work great. Should be finished around Christmas with cedar tongue and groove. Were taking next weekend off... were beat.
It is very clean and professional looking frame. Very smooth operation. Nice work. After you catch a few you cannot beat Hole 19 at Hunter'sPoint bar/restaurant.
Tooo funny but true. Ty btw. I have the catch covers in. Furnace rocks. and we tested every electrical line and all works like a charm with breakers and or fuses. Started dinette area as well as cedar in other locals. Lp tank mount is mounted and ready for the twin 30's for now. Ordering a touch pad lock so buddies donot have to come and get key...they can enter a code to use it. Shopping for flat screen for the slow times on the lake. It's nice as we have friends that will occupy the fish house most of the time so as not to worry about weather vandalism or theft problems. I would love to post pics but lately been having problems uploading more. Always says uploading and ive waited 10 minutes. I have a very good cable connection with extra bandwidth so im stumped. Anyways I hope you all up there didnt get all that snow like we did in the cities :)
Here are some pics! Hope we still are doing a good job :) The first pic from left to right is of the custom switch panels we had made via water jetting. The second is of the plate filled with a L.E.D. hole light and switch. The 3rd is of out lift controler box 1 of 2 we are making. The forth you can see the master switches and a sample of the wood work (Cedar) in progress. And the fifth is just at the stage we left it last Sunday. We broke down and decided to panel it up asap so now we are working during the week on it. We have about a FULL 2 days left on it till its complete to the stage of living in it for a weekend or soo. The heater took around 45 minutes from start to 70 degrees with it outside at zero degrees. Holds the heat well tho slower than we had hoped. I may have to shop around for either a solar panel for aid in keeping batteries up. ( means less generator time. Another option is a removable turbine we are considering as its always windy out on the lakes.

Sorry forgot the finished outside. We still are gonna "v" the nose even more for an enclosure for the tanks in front and towing but...... for this winter due to ice time we can wait.
All the lights inside and out cept by door are L.E.D's and are extremely bright with very low amperage draw. For those interested heres a link to what and where we purchased these from :) http://www.superbrightleds.com/
Trust me same here im like a 5 year old waiting to open my xmas present. Alot of the techy stuff goes to my buddy Shawn of 25 years. We both are very electronic savy but lack alot of construction skills to a point...atleast we gave it OUR best shot. The pros I know could have done better but we wanted a fish house to have EXACTLY what we wanted and done to the Nth degree for quality almost to overkill compared to the leading manufacturers of fish houses we have checked out. Trust me that list has been scoured well :) In my opinion though I would have done the frame differently. All aluminum but the cost would have been extremely higher for all the extra support needed for screw jacks and our anal outlook on strength. There is only one manufacture id outright buy from as he sells the shell only but does not make 8 foot wide houses. All aluminum AND for example: 6.5 X 16 + "v" nose approx 1600lbs foamed, aluminunum siding and cranks. The shacks look awesome. He is by far beyond other manufacturers but then again hes only hitting the hi end nitch of the market. We have 2 other fish houses to make and trust me THEY ARE GOING UP IN tech and light weight. Ill post our final product for this winter atleast by around xmas! Maybe a vid of it raising and lowering as well as our attempt to finish the interior :)

And btw we made our own auger all electric and plows a factory gas auger. Yes it rolls 10" (60 holes approx) 18" as tested with np. Here is a pic but a new circuit board design is made. The cover has not been made as of yet. L.E.D. bars in the works for night drilling. I had a challenge to a guy in Nitties against a 4 stroke auger against this for speed. For $100 so when hes up there and i get it easily, ill ring the bell :) I even gave him an advantage....he gets to use an 8" ill use a 9" or 10" whatever I have on at the time. But I may swap out a gear hehehehe as we can with this for any size auger. Its approx 5 hp continous not peaked rating as gas augers get. Can almost twist your wrists with a monster 10" on geared at 295 rpm. I wanna try our 420 rpm on a 10" shavings will be a flyen or itll crap out from lack of torque.
Just thought we may have a problem.....weve never tested it for hauling. If we have a problem with it at higher speeds I think were done for this year as im beat and so is Shawn. He may come up with a quick fix with a change.... I can only foresee a massive welding day. Ill throw my hands up to stupidity but in all honesty. Between what we have searched for online (techy stuff on build), and whom we have talked about as well as too. Im pretty sure with our research the fish house will be ok for towing. We have approximatley 270 lb. tongue weight and approx 8% of total trailer weight. We are a little bit shy on whats recomended for tongue weight.
Heres a Vid of the outside finished till next year with a Lp tank enclosure and such on the front (more of a "v" front). The generator enclosure will be on back vented and insulated under bay window.
Just trailered it and pulls great. Electric brakes work fine. May need some extra weight on front as it gets a little bit bouncy at times. That "v" nose helps with the wind over our last flat nose. Paneling is over half done. For the catch covers (8) I want to try foaming the lids as not all will be in use the majority of the time. They seal well but its only plastic. So im thinking about foaming them and shaving them flush, then applying some plastic bottoms and plastic welding them. I know its anal but what the hell.

Paneling is all done! Time to fish so the little things that are left will be done this spring / summer. TUrned out good but glad were done for now.......shweeeeew
That is some very nice paneling Scott. Way to go iceassissin... Beautiful wood and workmanship! Cool dude. It looks awesome from your posted images. What a fun place to hang out and fish. The whole project is quite an accomplishment. Have fun and catch a few willie the walleyes for me. Malmo Mike was here...
Thanks alot its appreciated. But I can tell ya tho.... The hardworking men and woman that make there own fish houses have to be VERY motivated to do it and have friends to help out as this was a *#$%^ but I sit back now and REALLY APPRECIATE it. The equivelant time invested would be the equivelant of just over 4 months of weekends only from start to finish. The cost went up $9,000 because some things had to be redone and well were anal as well as ignorant lol. We started in June but took some weekends off. Research and development was almost the same amount of time as we were both .....well newbies at it. The fish house license and shelter license have been purchased and either tonight or tommorrow it will be on a local lake here. A Milacs adventure with some Floridians will be in February ( the only time they can come up :(. Oh btw the house at 15 degrees outside now takes 15 minutes to heat the whole monster nicely to 65 now. All we had to do is turn on the range top in the beginning. When im out on the lake in daylight ill take better pics of the dinette up and the transformation to bed. Or half a dinette. Wish i could have done all the little trim, curtains and such but I think it will be, go out and do a tiny bit each trip with a screw gun when dead fishing occurs. Sorry couldn't keep the target date we set but ILL wish you all GOOOOOOD LUCk on fishing :)
Catching our limits everynight for almost a week! I can actually say im sick of catching crappies and walleye........got to go for the best tasting fish.....peeeerch hunting!!!! Under 30 minutes and I have to leave or else go for something else!!! There small but there breakfast for us! Brought a co-worker out and he banged both our limits in under 40 minutes.
Also a huge tip or trick! OR is this *#%
Have you all ever hauled up a fish from a deeper lake and it appeares dead from "the bends" so to speak. A guy showed me this simple trick but i dont know if it actually works without destroying the fish later. He will take a fish thats lathargic from a deep haul up and basically bend it in the shape of a "U" stateing hes releasing air out of the bladder. U can actually hear it and its works. Plz give input as i have counted the small crappies ive caught previously towards limit and had to fillet them as well. If this works which ive seen it TOTALLY makes them recover....will they be harmed at all? Meaning......is this a good practice or not if not i will continue the fillet process as a fish wasted to me is a crime period!!!! Am I just that much of a nub and didnt know this or is it an ole timer trick that works. If theres skeptics Ill get a vid posted for proof. I actually now just wanna sit in the fish house and watch other people enjoy themselves. Im very lazy now for some reason :)

Thanks Scott, That is an interesting tip and seems plausible to me. The so-called 'bends' must affect the fish from deep water. I will try it.. Maybe Tat2jonnie will know about this one.
That is quite a build you did on the new fishing palace. I just wanna catch some walleye and perch -- as I have the walleye fever bad. That is the only cure, ya know? Malmo Mike was here. Football games today.
The fish do get a form of the bends from coming up under duress from 30 feet down. In years past, we never used to worry about bringing our dinner up too quickly, cuz it always went on the stringer. NOW, ya got alot of fish that need to get put back, so we have to be more careful. The walleye family, (perch included) are incapable of expelling enough air out of their air ballast while coming up on the line. That's why many times, you'll find their air bladder in their throat. With their ballasted air from 30 feet, which has alot more pressure than at surface depths and their weakened condition, many fish don't survive getting back to the depth they need to return to in order to survive. Ways to get them to return include piercing the air bladder, reviving the fish in a livewell, which can prove interesting to DNR agents when you try to explain that you just wanted to make sure he could swim away..........., My favorite has always been mouth to mouth resuscitation, but I'll be darned if I can find any film footage to show ya.
Foamed the hole covers. Heres some pics. With all the holes open in the floor the house has np being warm on the floor with that heater. I dont know if the foam helps or not but it sure cant hurt. The aluminum door we purchased freezes up if the heater vents are pointed at it. I think a wood frame is best to fight this condensation problem. Had a massive fish fry and Fond Du steak at my brothers for 16 people. We usually do it once a winter for all of our friends. Just got stocked back up in the freezer now so I have more fish for breakfast wooot. Gonna try out them jumbo perch this weekend on Mille Lacs.
I have not checked to see if I have sent you these plans or not as I have sent the plans to many. If you still need them just post again or email me :)
Yes, this frame was built from scratch and welded by both Shawn and myself. We kept the frame well within 1/16" from corner to corner and as straight as possible with the help of clamping and pneumatics.
Had one part break finally and that was a 3500# leaf spring. Both leaf springs were replaced with 5000#ers.
Warmest fish house I have ever been in, to date! Some shacks youll get corners seeping cool/cold air ect... Not this one!
