I have Direct TV at my house and would like to bring one of the boxes up to Mille Lacs to have hooked up to my fish house. Does anyone know of a person in the area up there who could help with the hook up as well as I am looking for some contact information.
The worst winds are always out of the Northwest, so we always point the doors toward the Southeast, unless otherwise requested. The dish for satellite reception needs to have a southern exposure, so when mounting the dish on your house, make sure it's on the southernmost part of the house as the door is facing the Southeast.
I'll let somebody else take the box hookup, as I can't ever tell the satellite remote from the DVD remote. (My wife says I'm remotely challenged.)
This process is extremely easy! I bring mine with all the time and to various locations. Here's what I would suggest. Buy your self a single LNB dish (RCA, SONY) and go a head and mount the mounting bracket and pole to a location that is easily accesable for running a coa cable and that will be located so that you can point to the south (usually about 220 degrees if I'm not mistaken). Ebay might be a good choice for a used dish. Leave the dish on the mount that slides on to mounting pole seperate. I usually just store mine under my table our in up front room. Run a coax cable to where you will have your TV. This will be your "Satelite in" cable. This can be left there from that day on. Now all you need is you box, power cable and a short run coax to run from your Directv box to your TV. If you're not familuar with your directv tv box, mark (with a piece of masking tape) your satelite canble in and out to tv cable. This might help eliminate frustrations upon returning.
So now you arrive at your shack. Put the dish on mounting pole (leave loose for adjustments), hook up power, satelite in cable & out to tv cable, and start to look for signal. I can not express how easy it has been when out on the ice. Mine beeps loaded and fster as I get better signal (I just leave my window open and listen for signal). Once you have a strong enough siganl (anthing over 70 should be fine) gently tighten the dish (doesn't have to be that tight) and sit back, catch fish, drink drink of choice and enjoy.
If you can tell me what directv box you have, I can probably walk you throught the siganl locater process. Have done a lot of these.
I have tried this with our box from home and was unable to get any channels other than the locals. I believe it is because the box is hooked up to a dual LNB at home and I have a single at the lake. The receiver is a dual receiver? anyone know if this would be the problem and cause my scenario? Help on the telephone with their techs turned into we need to get a better signal. I have a higher signal number at the lake then I do at home.
I went through this at my cabin this summer. At home I have a 5LNB dish. I mounted an 18" dish at the cabin. I bought a signal locater at Radio Shack, goes between the dish and receiver so one person can locate the signal. I had to change the satellite setting to 18" round dish instead of the home setting of 5LNB. Works great! Hope it helps.
I should have mentioned I have dish network. I have tried the setting changes in setup for dish 300 and 500 and super dish and every combination possible, nothing worked. Maybe different than direct tv. Makes sense what you saying, just wish it would work that well for me. :(
Howdy Doug, We have DISH Network at both of our lake shore homes at Malmo Bay and DISH network works great for us. Note: Enbergs TV in Aitkin is an excellent DISH network home service -- Enberg's is (218) 927-2988 in Aitkin. I have not yet had an opportunity to try it on the lake ice. I supose nothing is simple out on the lake on a cold day. Good luck!@ Give Enbergs a call and I know they are excellent. Malmo Mike says you gotta have a Dish! Gopher Hockey? NFL? Yupper.
Recentlly i have also buy a new digital TV, Even i have also install a a new digital aerial. But still i am not getting all the channels. I think there is any aerial installation problem. please help me..
I had trouble too trying to hook mine up on the 4th of July. I couldn't get any signal. I have the bearing right but not sure about the elevation. I have a single LNB 18" dish mounted on my roof. I have a new slimline at home. I changed the selection on the box, but there were multiple 18" dish selections. What one do I choose? I called service and that didn't help either, they wanted to send out a tech. I might try again this weekend to hook it up. I would really like to get this done, but unsure what I'm doing wrong.
