The surface water temperature has now finally reached the 60 degree mark! and with that fishing has improved also! The walleye are still shallow for the most part, but some success is coming from the mud flat areas now also. Rigging leeches on long leaders have been the ticket out on the mud while pitching jigs and plastics and or minnows have caught the fish shallow. Bobber fishing the shallow break lines is another option if and when the wind is blowing. The water clarity is very good currently. One can see your anchor in as deep as 14+ FOW. With the clear water conditions it is very important to keep that in mind when fishng. As the fish will be boat shy and spook from any boat movement etc. You need to get your bait away from the boat. Don't be fishing under the boat!
The evening bobber bite is yet another good option. Reports are coming in from the bobber fisherman that just befor dark the fish have been pretty active. Most of the fish that are getting caught are in the 21-26 inch range. We have had reports of some over 28's getting caught also.
The smallmouth bass action has been really good also. Pitching tube jigs have caught a number of fish as have live bait such as a leech. We did hear of a report from a local of a 23.5 inch smallmouth caught and released this week. That fish may have been the next state record.........one will never know! guess someone will need to catch it again.
