Hand Held GPS

This summer someone else thought they needed my portable GPS more than I did. With that being said I am in the market for a new one. With the upcoming ice fishing show this will be a good week to buy a new hand held GPS. Any specific one that is better than the others. I do have a lowrance in my boat and I could use that chip. But if another brand is far better purchasing a new chip would be okay. Does anyone have any recommendations. Thanks

I don't know. I've always had better luck with Garmin for handhelds. I just got their Oregon 450 and it comes with the newest Lakemaster chip of the entire Northwest! I'm just getting used to it, but I'm really likin' it. They've got some deals going on right now at: http://g.factoryoutletstore.com/cat/31188/Handheld-GPS.html

I've got a Lowrance in my truck and boat.

I agree with Fishnpole:

 1. I have Lowrance color HDS in my boat with the Lakemaster chip for Mille Lacs lake;

2. But I use the Garmin eTrex or the Garmin Otter for my hand held. These units are excellent.

3. We have used the Garmin eTrex for years while elk hunting in Colorado (on horseback trips). It has been  vey effective for mapping; transfers etc.

Suggestion:

Call Lee or Michelle at Reed's Sporting Goods on HWY 169. Ask their opinion on their best selling or rated hand held. They have a lot of experience with hunters/fishermen in this area and I get great prices on electronics from them.

Download the navionics app for your smartphone. All most fishermen need.

That's what my fishing buddy and brother-in-law, Keith, did. He swears by it and can always find the breaks and rockpiles, etc.

Unfortunately, I've got a dumbphone. (But sometimes it's smarter than me.)

Good Suggestion Dr. O.

I have NAVIOINCS on my iPad and now I need to download it to my smart phone too for use on the ice.

 I did this about a year ago. It works pretty well for a phone app.
