There have been very few ice reports so I called Eddie Lyback:
1. Nearly all resort access have been closed to vehicles for safety and shore open water conditions.
2. Per Eddie Lyback and Lyback's Marine Shop:
Saturday March 12th: 14-16 inches of ice 1 mile out but honeycomb ice top to booton.
Sunday March 20th: Honeycomb ice conditions with rain/water accumulation on top of ice.
3. Malmo Mike's Shore line report: Areas of open water along many shorelines now in: Malmo Bay and Agate Bay, Sunset Bay and some Isle shoreline resort areas. The first steps in ice out are seen.
4. Eddie and I anticipate a fairly early ice out -- likely the First week of April - under currently weather conditions of a warm windy period on the lake.
Any reports of current ice thickness and conditions are most welcome.
Everyone be SAFE! May is coming! Bass fishing? TBD.
Malmo Mike MM at Malmo Bay area.
We have the normal shoreline open water for 30-60 feet out from shore.

2016 Mille Lacs Lac Messenger Officially declares ICE OUT: April 5th, 2016 between 12PM and 12AM (midnight). This implies a clear passage from Isle Bay to Garrison at that time.
So, a fairly early ice out based on the average ICE OUT date falling on April 23rd.
