Usually this time of year this discussion board is full of subjects related to the upcoming season. But, I see little or no activity on the board...... Not even Malmö Mikey 🤔 It's time to start talking about what we can do to ensure the survival of not only the lake, but the businesses that rely on our support. I'm going to Mille lacs for the opener! I plan on shopping in the stores in Isle, buying my gas in Malmö, and eating in the fine restaurants around the lake! How about you?
Absolutely!!!! It is a shame that we will not be able to keep any fish this summer however lets not forget that this is still a great fishery! If you were up over the hard water season this past winter you know the potential that is there. We all can still have a lot of fun catching walleye along with supporting the businesses around the lake. We are vital to their livelihood's and they are dependent on our support. I plan to make several trips from the cities to the lake this summer chasing walleye as well as those world class small mouth bass!!
Lets all band together to make sure that we support these great businesses and get them through these hard times.
Wednesday I turned the water on in the fish cleaning shack at the resort. I stood in there and kind of thought this is not going to get used much this summer. Some fish cleaned from other local lakes in the area I guess!!
I just wrote the check for my site fee this year at the resort, still plan on being up there pretty much every weekend! No matter what they try, they can't keep me away from that magic water!! LOL
I'll be there for opener and for the entire open water season. Except for a few side trips to pickup eaters for the family and friends, I will be supporting local business. Some of the best fishing I've had on Mille Lacs are the years when fishing was reported to be slow. I found that the majority of people who think fishing on Mile Lacs is poor and that there are no walleyes are people who never even fish the lake. Whenever I have a poor day of catching, I blame myself for not figuring out what the fish wanted. Even with all the mismanagement of the lake by our dnr, special interest groups who think they deserve specials rights, and government officials who provide lip service without meaningful results, Mille Lacs remains one of Minnesota's best lakes.
Not having to clean fish after a long day on the lake isn't all bad.
Malmo Mike will be out there on the Opener fishing; I want a few jumbos if I get lucky. I still need to do my fishing and I come 1,200 miles to be out there in the Bomber Boat!
See you in a couple of weeks Big D. I will stop bye top see you and Glen! I have a cold one for you hell raisers.
I am very sorry to hear this report. I will call Malmo Mom to see if she has seen them in our bay today...or at Castaway's marina...
I will contact you folks when I get up to the lake (Wednesday evening) at Hunter's Point or call to track you down and buy you a & Jody cold one. Thanks MMMalmo Mike
The Bomber Boat is available for boat rides and listening to the Power Loon. I come 1,100 miles for the Opener and my best fishing will be walleye fingers at the Pine Inn. AT least they have good walleye fingers.
Malmo Mike is right here. At least I can hang out Hunter's Point and have a cold one. Maybe George Nitti has an idea.
Here I come Bay Lake???? Geezuz this sucks.
It is very discouraging to be faced with catch and release and no option to even possess one walleye.
I will be putting my boat in the water for a boat ride I guess after we get spring dock work completed and normal spring work at our lakeshore property.
The state and DNR must come up with a better solution for preserving and rebuilding the lake of course.
We landed 4 nice walleyes in the south Malmo Bay area on Sunday in about one hour ranging from 20-24 inches each and immediately released them with great care.
Personally I hooked a 24 incher and it was a beautiful fish.At each of us caught a nice fish and it was released without injury. Catch and release was accomplished.
The rest of the weekend was a working weekend: dock in, grass mowed, and other normal maintenance. We had a fine bon fire and nice weather.
Malmo Mike
The Malmo Bomber Boat did just fine.
